Police pleased with 7s crowd behaviour

Police are pleased with the behaviour of fans at the final of the Wellington Sevens rugby tournament on Saturday night.

Five arrests and 30 evictions were made from the stadium; following seven arrests and 17 evictions on Friday.

Most of the arrests were for minor offences like fighting or offensive behaviour.

Police said the crowd was better behaved than in previous years and a new system requiring those over 18 to wear bracelets to drink alcohol, worked well.

However, 55 people were arrested in the city after the final game.

Police said the arrests were mostly due to disorderly behaviour and breaches of a liquor ban.
