Tourism figures from French Polynesia show arrival numbers in January were down just under ten percent over January last year.

The statistics show that slightly more than 9,000 visitors made it to Tahiti and its islands.

The figures also show that on average visitors stayed almost two days longer than the previous year.

Tourism in the territory has declined in recent years to the level of the mid-1990s.
