A man has died after his vehicle collided with a log truck on a road notorious for crashes, near Whangarei.

Emergency services were working at the scene, at the intersection of Otaika Valley Road and Cemetery Road, near Maungatapere.
The winding road linking Kaikohe and Port Marsden was upgraded last year to become a state highway, and the preferred route for heavy traffic.
The road has a history of log truck crashes and rollovers, but today's fatality is the first in some years.
The Otaika Valley section of State Highway 15 was closed while police investigated.
