The Transport Agency has announced the preferred route for a $760 million motorway between Puhoi - Warkworth.
The agency says about 50 properties will be affected - 10 fewer than previously indicated. Properties will be purchased on a case-by-case basis as funding allows.
Auckland and Northland state highways manager Tommy Parker says people driving between Auckland and Whangarei will save a significant amount of time when the section is operating in 2026.
The motorway is part of the Puhoi-to-Wellsford road of national significance, which will cost about $1.8 billion.
