No new budget for CNMI by October 1

08:56 am on 27 September 2007

The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas government says it will continue operating under the current budget for the 2008 fiscal year.

There is no appropriations bill from the Governor's Office yet in time for the deadline of October 1.

The government will follow the amended Fiscal year 2007 budget law, which set a spending limit of 163-point-5 million dollars.

The Saipan Tribune reports the House Speaker Oscar Babauta, says it will be impossible to get a budget by Monday, as most members are tied up with their campaign.

He says they want to give the committee a chance to review the governor's submission thoroughly.

The government will go into continuing resolution on October 1.

Government agencies will continue to be funded at current levels.
