Two dead after crashes in Northland and Bay of Plenty

Two people have died after crashes in Northland and Bay of Plenty yesterday.

In Bay of Plenty, a woman who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on State Highway 2, near Benner Road, in Pongakawa at about 2.40pm yesterday was flown to hospital but died overnight.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on 105 and quote event number P050493720 so they can piece together what happened.

In Northland, a person died in a single vehicle crash on State Highway 12 near Kaikohe.

Police said another person in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash, which they were alerted to at 9.20pm last night.

The road is closed while investigators examine the scene.

Meanwhile, in Otago police are appealing for information after a man's body was located on Owaka Valley Road in Clutha overnight.

Police were notified at about 12.20am this morning and said it appears the man was struck by a vehicle.

The road is closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.

Police would like to hear from any motorists in the area at the time who can help piece together the events leading up to the incident.

In another incident, a person died after a quad bike crashed at a private property in the Taranaki town of Waverley.

Emergency services were called out at about 9am yesterday, but it was confirmed the person had died at the scene.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
