State highway 25 has reopened between Ruamahunga and Waiomu, but Waka Kotahi warn access could change at any time.
On 24 June, two slips compromised the highway south of Tapu near Ruamahunga and Waiomu. The larger slip at Ruamahunga has continued to move this week, forcing road closures.
Waikato Waka Kotahi journey manager Liam Ryan said road users would be able to travel during daylight hours providing they travelled on the outside lane.
"Road users will be able to travel past the site from 1.30 until 5.30pm today then SH25 will close again overnight and re-open at 7.30am tomorrow providing it's safe to do so," he said.
The daytime use of the highway, which would be under stop go supervision, was expected to continue through the weekend and into next week.
Geotechnical engineers had completed assessments on the slips, with controls being put in place to reduce any risk to road users travelling through the area, Ryan said.
"While the cliff face is stable enough to enable one lane to open for now, the risk remains that further material could slip and road users should expect delays or further closures here at any time."
Waka Kotahi had worked throughout the week to remove loose material from the slip face but more work was needed to remove earth from higher up the cliff face in a controlled and safe way, Ryan said.
"We will update road users as soon as our geotechnical experts have advised us on the best way to do this."
Access to emergency services will continue to be provided.
