Three die as earthworks collapse in Samoa

11:49 am on 11 September 2018

Three workers on the Samoan island of Savai'i are dead after the earthworks they were working on collapsed, burying them.

KHJ News contacted police at Tuasivi but they could not confirm the incident and referred the enquiry to the main police headquarters in Apia.

However a worker at Tuasivi Hospital, who did not want to be named, confirmed that three men were brought to the hospital "around five in the afternoon".

A video is circulating on social media showing police and workers using an excavator to dig up the buried workers.

Two bodies are clearly seen being removed just before the video ends.

The accident happened at Tafua, a village on the southeastern coast of Savai'i.
