Reform advocates the Howard League want better accommodation for those on remand.

It comes as some offenders face jail time because bad reception where they live means electronic monitoring is not an option.

The Corrections Department has signed a $180m contract for new equipment which will improve coverage so fewer people are disadvantaged.
