One person has died and another has serious injuries after a crash near Hamilton.
Police said emergency services were called to the collision about 11.20pm on Friday, on State Highway 26 at Newstead, a rural area east of Hamilton.
Two vehicles were involved.
One person died at the scene, while a person from the other vehicle was taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries, the statement said.
The highway remained closed at the crash scene on Saturday morning.
