Serious injuries after two-vehicle crash in Southland

Emergency services are responding to a serious two-vehicle crash in Southland this afternoon.

Police were called to the crash near the intersection of Mandeville-Kingston Crossing Road and Dunn and Cody Road at Longridge shortly after 2pm.

Police said: "It appears two people are in a serious and critical condition. The Serious Crash Unit has been advised. The road is closed, and diversions are being put in place."

Farmers took it upon themselves to block the road and turn vehicles back as they awaited police arrival to put a cordon in place.

Fire and Emergency were also at the scene.

Hato Hone St John said: "One ambulance, one first responders unit, two operations managers, one rapid response vehicle, and two helicopters have responded".
