An Afghan interpreter who has been waiting for a year to be resettled in New Zealand is now living in Auckland.
The interpreter, known as AJ, was injured in the 2010 attack on a New Zealand Defence Force convoy in Bamiyan province in which Lieutenant Tim O'Donnell was killed.
AJ fled Afghanistan for Germany to seek medical treatment. From there, he waited for a year for a visa to enter New Zealand.
Radio New Zealand has confirmed he and his family have arrived at the Refugee Resettlement Centre in Auckland.
AJ has accepted the same resettlement package offered to other Provincial Reconstruction Team interpreters who worked with soldiers in Afghanistan.
Thirty Afghan interpreters and their 64 family members were resettled in April this year, while another nine men and their families were granted residency in October.
