Covid-19: Hairdressers desperate to open

Aucklanders will likely have to wait a few more weeks to get their lockdown locks seen to by a professional.

Hairdressers and barbers in Auckland can't ply their trade until the city gets to "step three" under the Government's new Covid-19 restrictions.

But the industry is desperate after more than seven weeks of lockdown, with some re-mortgaging their homes and others selling up shop altogether.

Industry body Hair & Barber New Zealand says hairdressers desperate for cash to feed their families are running the risk of catching Covid-19 and are starting to do cuts from their homes.

Salon owner and Hair & Barber New Zealand representative Niq James spoke to Kim Hill.
