A 12-year-old accused of murdering a man near Kaikohe has pleaded not guilty in the High Court in Whangārei this morning.
He was charged last December, after the death of Michael John Biggins in September.
The 62-year-old was found seriously injured in a crashed vehicle in a paddock in Ōkaihau.
The 12-year-old accused, who has name suppression, was remanded in the custody of Oranga Tamariki today.
He is jointly charged with a 15-year-old boy.
Their High Court murder trial will start in March next year.
