Nay vote

13:12 pm on 11 December 2013

In an unusual move, United Future leader Peter Dunne has voted against the re-appointment of Sir Hugh Williams as president of the Electoral Commission.

Mr Dunne says he has no confidence in Sir Hugh or the commission's chief executive, Robert Peden.

He lost respect for the commission when it de-registered his party earlier this year.

So when Justice Minister Judith Collins recommended to Parliament on this morning that Sir Hugh Williams' appointment to the commission be extended another three years, Mr Dunne was not a supporter.

He was the only MP to say no to the appointment.
