Naholo has been named on the Canterbury bench, having returned to New Zealand earlier this year after an injury-plagued stint in London.

All Blacks squad member Braydon Ennor will start at centre as he endeavours to work his way back to full fitness.

Forwards Daniel Johnson and Dominic Gardiner are also in line to make their NPC debuts off the Canterbury bench.

Gardiner's the son of Canterbury legend Angus Gardiner.

Tall Blacks centre Tohi Smith-Milner has signed a two-year contract with South East Melbourne, with the second year being a club option.

Smith-Milner previously played for Melbourne United and was part of their 2018 NBL championship-winning team.

He will join compatriots Reuben Te Rangi and Izayah Le'afa at the Phoenix, while former Tall Blacks guard Judd Flavell is one of South East Melbourne's assistant coaches.

Tohi Smith-Milner is currently training in New Zealand after helping the Wellington Saints win the New Zealand NBL title.

He hopes to join the team's pre-season preparation in the next month.

12 wickets fall on day one at Sabina Park

Jason Holder and Jayden Seales grabbed three wickets each as the West Indies bowled out Pakistan for 217 runs on the rain-affected opening day of the first test at Sabina Park, Jamaica but fell into trouble as they began their reply.

Holder took 3-17 and Seales 3-70 as the tourists were toppled cheaply after the Windies won the toss and sent them into bat, finding good movement with the ball.

But the hosts lost Kieran Powell and Nkrumah Bonner to successive balls from Mohammad Abbas in only the third over of their reply and were 2-2 when bad light brought play to a premature close.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Roston Chase will resume at the crease tomorrow on a pitch still looking lively and offering the bowlers plenty of opportunity.

The test is the first of two between the teams at Sabina Park, being played behind closed doors because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

India start well at Lord's

India batsman KL Rahul cracked a superb unbeaten century and Rohit Sharma made 83 as the visitors reached a strong position at 276-3 after the opening day of a rain-hit second test against England at Lord's.

Rahul dropped anchor early in his innings as Rohit led the charge before switching gears to bring up his sixth test century following an impressive 84 in the first innings of the drawn first test of the five-match series.

Rahul's knock of 127 not out included 12 fours and a six.

England seamer James Anderson dismissed Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara to give the hosts hope of clawing their way back but India skipper Virat Kohli (42) stitched together a 117-run partnership with Rahul before departing.

Ajinkya Rahane was unbeaten on one at the close.

Earlier, England's pace bowlers got plenty of movement in overcast conditions after the start of play was delayed by 30 minutes due to rain, but they had little reward thereafter as captain Joe Root was left to rue his decision to bowl.

Solid start for Ko

Lydia Ko is tied for 23rd, five shots off the lead after the opening of the Scottish Open in Fife.

Ko had three birdiues and a bogey in her two under par round of 70.

Local player Michele Thomson fired a Dumbarnie Links course record seven under par 65 to grab a two shot lead.

The last major of the year, the British Open is next week at Carnoustie.

Storm hold on to beat Raiders

The Canberra Raiders gave NRL leaders Melbourne a huge scare at Sunshine Coast Stadium last night before the sending-off of Corey Harawira-Naera in the 76th minute for a shoulder charge ended any hopes of an upset.

In the end the Storm prevailed 26-16 but they had to survive a Jack Wighton-inspired comeback from Canberra before registering their 18th win on the trot.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said a poor 15-minute defensive period cost his team dearly and didn't have any problem with the decision to send Harawira-Naera off.

"If he's hit him in the head, yeah [it was a fair send-off]," Stuart said.

"But it's not in Corey's make-up to go out and try and hurt someone like that. It's a collision game and he's come in very fast, and obviously if he has hit him in the head - obviously the young bloke [Hughes] was taken off - but it wouldn't have been something he would've went out to try to do."

Canberra remain eighth on the table.

Big win for Wizards

Last year's beaten finalists the Waikato Wizard have started the new women's NBL season with an emphatic 94-59 win over the Auckland Dream in Auckland.

Krystal and Charlisse Leger-Walker put on a basketball masterclass with Charlisse threatening a triple-double with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 9 steals while Krystal finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds and a couple of steals and assists.

The performance and the size of the victory will have sent shock waves around the league with the Wizards clearly marking themselves as the team to beat this season.

Almost predictably, Charlisse Leger-Walker made the opening score of the game, in fact she scored the first 16 points before another Wizard (sister Krystal) troubled the scorers. The Wizards ahead 31-16 at quarter time.

Sharne Robati top scored for the Dream with 22 points.

The competition will be held in Auckland and will run every Thursday-Sunday for five weeks with each team playing each other twice before a top four play-off.

The defending champion Harbour Breeze play the Canterbury Wildcats tonight.
