Two New Zealanders on the run from authorities have been arrested in Sydney after apparently sailing a stolen yacht across the Tasman, Radio New Zealand reports.
Warrants had been issued for Paul James Bennett and Simone Wright, who are also known by various other names.
Police in this country wanted to speak to the pair about fraud totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars, while they were also wanted for questioning over what are described as unrelated “sexual matters” in Auckland.
Last month it was suspected they may have stolen a yacht from Opua in the Bay of Islands and maritime police in Sydney this morning confirmed that two New Zealanders were arrested on a yacht there yesterday.
Last week it emerged that Christchurch businessman Mike Jacomb, from the company HeliPower, had put up a $50,000 bounty on the couple.
He said he had had met Paul Bennett two years ago through a website selling Rolex watches.
Jacomb claimed funds had been diverted from HeliPower to Bennett's accounts.
The businessman offered the bounty because, he said, police had acted too slowly and missed opportunities to catch Mr Bennett.
