An extreme fire risk in New Caledonia has prompted the Civil Security organisation to declare a territory-wide fire ban.

The ban exempts the use of fire for cooking in domestic situations.
The western coast of the main island as well as the area around Canala on the eastern coast are rated as being at extreme risk.
New Caledonia regularly suffers drought conditions and experiences extensive bushfires.
