Labour has accused the Government of playing politics by ignoring advice to reduce ACC levies.
ACC spokesperson Andrew Little said both the ACC and the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment advised that levies could be cut while still ensuring the corporation had enough money to meet the cost of future claims.
But, he said, the Government made a political decision not to reduce levies.
Mr Little said that if levies were reduced, someone on the average wage would get an extra $125 per year.
But instead, he said, ACC will now get $5.5 billion dollars more than it needs, courtesy of taxpayers.
