Mr Key had no pre-election windfalls to offer but with economic development spokesperson Steven Joyce outlined 10 government initiatives that benefit the region, or will do in future.
Northland's Regional Transport chair John Bain said the most important was the sign-off announced today on the extension of the Auckland motorway to Warkworth, and eventually Wellsford.
Mr Bain said Mr Key and Mr Joyce also spoke of the need for the Government to take a close look at Northland's roading network.
He said the July storm did about $40 million worth of damage to the roads and they are in urgent need of investment.
John Key was heckled by about thirty protesters as he arrived at Toll Stadium - including people unhappy about unsealed rural roads, and logging traffic.
