The Cook Islands National Council of Women says it wants to support all female candidates across the political spectrum in the upcoming general election.
It held a lunch recently to honour the 12 women who are standing as candidates in the poll on June the 15th.
President Rebecca Hosking-Ellis told those present to strive together to encourage equal participation of women in parliament.
She urged the women to stay strong in their beliefs for both the present and future generations.
One of the candidates at the lunch told the Cook Island News that in the past, women haven't taken on strong roles in the political arena.
But she said this might be time for the change that the Cook Islands need.
