Police in Auckland are trying to find a man who they say attacked a police officer and took off after being arrested.
They said Mansell Tehiritangi Penetana, 30, had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court.
He was supposed to appear before the Waitakere District Court on what police said was a serious assault charge.
The police said he was found and arrested yesterday at Parakai near Helensville, but then attacked the police officer.
Acting Detective Sergeant Kim Davison, from Rodney Police, said Mr Penetana was dangerous and should not be approached.
She said it was possible he was in Whangarei, because he had family and associates there.
