Three people are being held in police custody in Papua New Guinea accused of practising sorcery.
This is despite the courts recently stating they do not recognise sorcery as a punishable offence, and the 2013 repeal of the Sorcery Act, which criminalised the practice of sorcery.
The Post Courier reported that two women and a man are being held over the sudden death of a 14-year-old boy a week ago, apparently after they confessed to using black magic to kill the boy.
The boy, Robert Kain, complained of a headache and visited the toilet regularly on 28 October, but his condition steadily declined and he later died in Port Moresby hospital.
