The first group of Fijians selected to represent Fiji under the New Zealand Recognised Seasonal Employer Work Scheme leave for New Zealand today.
A three-day pre-departure training was conducted this week by the Foreign Employment Service of the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations to prepare the workers for employment in New Zealand.
The training was conducted in collaboration with Immigration New Zealand, Fiji's Ministry of Health, and Police Force.
The 12 candidates were selected by Pick Hawkes Bay Incorporated a major fruit processing company located in the Hawkes Bay.
They will depart for New Zealand today, and return to Fiji in September.
The next batch of workers is expected to depart next March.
The Minister for Employment, Jioji Konousi Konrote, reminded the candidates that their good performance will open doors to many other Fijians and will determine the future of the Scheme.
