SH25 blocked by slips, fallen trees

A major highway on the Coromandel peninsula has been closed due to fallen trees and slips.

State Highway 25 is blocked in both directions between Ruamahunga and Tapu.

Contractors and arborists are working to clear the trees and slips.

NZTA / Waka Kotahi said drivers wanting to use SH25 will instead have to take a lengthy route through Whitianga.

Police said the slips could take take some time to clear.
