Nestle confirms loss of 55 South Auckland factory jobs

Nestle has confirmed that 55 South Auckland factory workers will lose their jobs because it is selling off its confectionary brands.

The sale of the Mackintosh, Heards, Oddfellows and Black Knight liquorice brands to the New Zealand confectionary company RJ's will go ahead next month.

Manufacturing of the sweets will move from Nestle's site in Wiri to RJ's factory in Levin.

The workers and will receive redundancy pay and RJ's is looking at the possibility of employing some of them.

Nestle will keep making Maggi soups and other food products at its Wiri plant.
