Former Fiji minister unaware of corruption probe

17:27 pm on 6 November 2014

Fiji's former health minister, Dr Neil Sharma, says he's not aware of there being an investigation into his conduct by the country's Independent Commission Against Corruption.

A leaked document has been posted on the blog site Fijileaks, which appears to have come from the anti-corruption agency and centres on Dr Sharma.

The excerpts posted online don't show exactly when the investigation took place but they relate to a contract that was awarded in 2011.

Radio New Zealand International is seeking confirmation from the anti-corruption agency that the documents are authentic.

A passage says Dr Sharma manipulated a tender process in order to ensure that it was awarded to Hospital Engineering and Consultancy Ltd

The Commission recommends he be charged among other things with conspiracy, and abuse of office but Dr Sharma, who is now an MP of the ruling FijiFirst Party, says he's not aware of any investigation and refused to make any other comment.
