The sister of the American buyer of Hunter Valley Station says the family is looking forward to spending time here.
Matt Lauer, a host of NBC News' Today, has bought the lease for the 6500 hectare South Island farm bordering Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea.
It is the largest lakefront property in New Zealand.
The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) is yet to comment on the sale, but Mr Lauer's sister has confirmed the purchase.
It is hoped the sale of the station to Mr Lauer will end a long-running dispute about public access to Lake Hawea Conservation Park.
A guarantee of public access for walkers and cyclists was one of the OIO's conditions for approving the sale.
The property is under a leasehold arrangement and the land itself is still owned by the Crown.
