A man was to appear in the Tokoroa District Court on Monday, after a shotgun was fired in what the police say was a failed extortion attempt.
The police were called to a block of flats in Clyde Street on Sunday morning after a sawn-off shotgun was fired twice during a struggle between two men.
Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Pearce says a 39-year-old man was later arrested by the Armed Offenders Squad and charged with aggravated robbery and discharging a firearm.
Another man, 18, was also due to appear in court on Monday. A teenager, aged 16, has been referred to Youth Aid.
