The Samoa sevens coach Damian McGrath is keen to recruit some of the Manu's 15-a-side stars for next year's last chance Olympic qualifier.

A new-look Samoan men's team finished third at the Oceania Championship in Auckland at the weekend, behind Australia and Tonga.

They will have one final chance to qualify for Rio at a global repechage tournament in June.

Damian McGrath says he wants the strongest team possible for that event and would love to be able to call on the likes of World Cup stars Paul Perez and Tim Nanai-Williams.

"I think maybe we will look at bringing back some of our bigger names if that's possible so it's all to play for. Because the players are contracted elsewhere that will be really difficult for a small nation like Samoa to do but if the window opens and we can get those player in we will definitely do that".

First up is the start of the new World Series in Dubai next month, with Samoa drawn alongside South Africa, Scotland and Russia in pool play.
