Incumbent Whanganui mayor Hamish McDouall has been re-elected without so much as having to put up a campaign hoarding.
Mr McDouall fought off five other challengers in 2016 to succeed Annette Main, but this year he has been returned unopposed.
No other candidates had put their names forward for mayor by the deadline last Friday.
Meanwhile, 29 candidates are vying for the 12 seats around the council table.
