The Marshall Islands government's utility company will see its first change of command in more than 23 years and its first Marshall Islander in the General Manager post.

The board of the Marshalls Energy Company has named a Mobil Oil Micronesia official, David Paul, to the top job.

The current General Manager William F. Roberts is now in a 90-day transition period, with his last day on the job expected to be in early October.

Mr Roberts, who is British, has managed MEC since early 1986 and has played an active role in regional utility development, chairing the Fiji-based Pacific Power Association for three years during the mid-2000s.
