A 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a Dunedin school student has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Trinity Catholic College student Enere McLaren-Taana, 16, died after he was attacked at a bus stop last month.

The defendant has interim name suppression.

The public gallery of the High Court in Dunedin was packed when his lawyer entered his plea on Tuesday.

He is expected to go to trial in 2026.
