Eight construction workers have been detained following an immigration raid on government building projects.
Four Chinese and four Malaysian workers - were caught working without valid visas on 27 April at construction sites in east Auckland.
Immigration New Zealand deputy head Stephen Vaughan said they have been served deportation liability notices for working here unlawfully.
Two of them have since been deported and the others are in custody ahead of deportation.
Immigration New Zealand says further investigations are underway, and will not identify the sites.
Ten Chinese men were to be deported after being caught working illegally at an Auckland construction site in March this year.
