The Fiji Ministry of Health has reported a successful clean up campaign as the dengue fever outbreak continues.

The National Dengue Taskforce coordinator, Joana Koroituinakelo, says there was a good turn-out of community as well as government representatives, with over 1000 people helping to clean target areas in Suva and Nausori.

She says the focus was mainly on the search and removal of items that carry fresh water in them.

The health ministry says most current dengue vector breeding sites are located in industrial areas, and drums and tyres are the most preferred breeding objects.

A report on the Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika viruses was published last week by the SPC, and lists an ongoing outbreak of strain-3 dengue in Fiji, Vanuatu, French Polynesia and Queensland in Australia, while strain-1 dengue is still ongoing in French Polynesia and Queensland, and Zika is ongoing in French Polynesia, Cook Islands and New Caledonia.
