Firefighters battle Queensland bushfires

10:38 am on 24 October 2012

Queensland firefighters are braced for another difficult day as grass and bushfires continue to burn across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting little rain across the state on Wednesday, and gusty winds expected in the southeast will mean another challenging day for emergency services.

On Tuesday, crews battled more than 60 fires across the state, most of which were under control by the evening, AAP reports.

But a number of fires continued to burn, including at Ipswich west of Brisbane, the Gold Coast hinterland and in central Queensland.

Meanwhile, police say fires that have charred tracts of grazing land northeast of Kingaroy may have been deliberately lit.

Police say farmers around Manumbar reported seeing a number of suspicious cars over the weekend, when fires swept the area.
