A further 18 buildings have been added to the demolition list in Christchurch, taking the total that need to be either fully or partially taken down to nearly a thousand - 995, to be precise.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) updates the list as more buildings get signed off for demolition.

Another 293 buildings have been signed off by Civil Defence.

CERA says that since it took over from Civil Defence it has taken down, or made safe, 558 buildings.

Prominent buildings added to the list this week include the Old Sydenham post office, now Blue Jean Cuisine, which is a heritage building, and the Grant Thornton building in Cathedral Square.

Another 287 buildings have been taken down, or made safe, under the authority of Civil Defence.
