John Campbell is set to present the Breakfast show, replacing Jack Tame who will move to Q+A, TVNZ has announced.
Campbell will co-host alongside Hayley Holt and the rest of the Breakfast crew from 29 April.
The TVNZ reporter/presenter and former RNZ presenter said in a statement he looked forward to joining the Breakfast team.
He said the show offered the perfect balance between working in the field and presenting live.
"It's a privilege to be part of New Zealander's first news source of the day, bringing viewers breaking coverage from overnight, sharing stories that matter from around the country, and giving people a voice."
Meanwhile, Tame said his move to TVNZ's weekly politics show Q+A was an opportunity he couldn't miss.
"I've loved questioning our country's decision makers on Breakfast. Hosting Q+A will give me a chance to take that examination further - and never is it more important to ask the hard questions than when a vote is on the horizon.
"I'm really sad to be leaving the Breakfast whānau, the members of which do fantastic work in exhausting circumstances."
