Vanuatu's parliament is expected to sit on Friday to debate the opposition's motion of no confidence in the prime minister.

This comes as the Vanuatu Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal against a Supreme Court ruling on the motion.

Parliament has been directed to come out of recess and sit again early, after a pair of court rulings.

The Supreme Court last week ruled that the Speaker Stephen Felix's decision not to allow the Opposition's motion to proceed was unlawful.

An appeal against that ruling was unsuccessful, clearing the way for Parliament to sit today to debate the motion against prime minister Jotham Napat.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Ministry of the Prime Minister said the government "is solid and ready to defeat the motion!".

"Stability is key. Government numbers reconfirmed by the caucus - we're united and strong!"

Meanwhile, the opposition is now also calling for the Speaker to be removed.

Last month, opposition leader Ishmael Kalsakau accused Napat's government of being lazy.

Kalsakau, who has been one of five prime ministers Vanuatu has had in four years, told RNZ Pacific when a government that doe not perform, "the members of parliament have a right to change course".

"What do we really want as a country - do we want stabillity or do we want democracy?"
