Watling gets nod ahead of van Wyk and Martin to debut

The New Zealand cricket squads have been announced for the upcoming Twenty20 and test series in South Africa.

BJ Watling gets a recall as the test wicketkeeper ahead of Kruger van Wyk and the specialist spin bowler Bruce Martin will make his test debut.

New Zealand Cricket's national selection manager Kim Littlejohn says a leg-spin option isn't required in South African conditions so Todd Astle misses out this time, though he is very much part of their thinking for the future.

The batsmen Dean Brownlie and Peter Fulton return for the tests with Fulton also back in the T20 side. Rob Nicol misses selection for the test squad though he's in the T20 side, while Daniel Vettori continues his rehabilitation from injury and is unavailable.

There are four new caps in the Twenty20 squad in Corey Anderson, Jimmy Neesham, Colin Munro, Derek de Boorder and Mitchell McClenaghan, while Fulton gets a recall to the shortest form of the game as well.

Tim Southee and Jacob Oram weren't considered for the T20 side due to the pending birth of their children while Andrew Ellis was ruled out with a side strain.
