Two West Coast men have been arrested for poaching after the remains of deer were found near Ross.
A police spokesperson said they received complaints of deer having been shot at two separate locations in mid-April.
In the first incident, a pet trophy stag at Pukekura was shot, its head removed and the body left in the paddock.
The spokesperson said the animal was killed only metres from accommodation where tourists were staying.
In the second incident, two stags were shot on a farm at Butlers. One carcass was removed entirely and the second had the head removed.
Two men aged 30 and 56 have been charged with illegal hunting and will appear in the Greymouth district court in June.
