The Automobile Association wants speed cameras to be signposted in a bid to change driver behaviour.
Spokesman Ben Young said having signs warning of speed cameras was a common practice overseas.
It gave people a chance to slow down in areas with a history of crashes, he said.
The signs could mark individual cameras or a general zone.
Some people may argue that drivers simply slow down and then speed up again, he said.
But it was about being transparent and having people buy into the importance of road policing.
