The victim of a samurai sword attack has been arrested by Palmerston North police and charged with possessing an offensive weapon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan says the charge stems from an altercation at a party in the city on Sunday morning where the 20-year-old man had his hand severed by a samurai sword.
The weapon the man has been charged with possessing was a crowbar.
The victim had surgery to re-attach the hand on Monday.
On Tuesday, a 16-year-old appeared at a special sitting in Palmerston North District Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
