Bus services on Auckland's North Shore are being overhauled for the first time in seven years, both to boost peak capacity and run more frequently.

Auckland Transport says more services will be run along the dedicated busway, in the first big restructure since its opening in 2008.

The public transport network manager Anthony Cross said park and ride facilities along the busway would eventually be expanded as funding allowed.

He said stations on the busways would increasingly serve as hubs for connecting services, and the frequency of buses would increase.

"Four key frequent routes and other routes that will be built up to operate at least every 15 minutes, most of the day, seven days a week in the future as patronage and demand grows."

The changes will not take effect for two years, as a new fare system first has to be introduced next year, as well as a new system for contracting bus companies.

Public feedback is being sought for the next seven weeks.
