Large swells in the Cook Strait have led to the Interislander cancelling a second return crossing.
Interislander yesterday said it was cancelling today's 6.45am Aratere sailing from Wellington to Picton, and its return 10.45am sailing.
This morning, an Interislander spokesperson said the Arahura's 6.30pm journey from Wellington to Picton and its return 10.30pm sailing had also been cancelled.
Its 10.30am Wellington to Picton crossing was delayed until midday and the return trip from Picton, carrying rail and freight, until 4pm.
"Affected passengers and freight will be transferred to Kaitaki to ensure that any disruption to travel is minimised," the spokesperson said.
The weather in Cook Strait was forecast to deteriorate this afternoon but was expected to ease overnight, they said.
