Five youths have been arrested in Hamilton in relation to vehicle thefts.
A member of the public reported two vehicles acting suspiciously on Ōhaupō Road, near Ōhaupō.
One of the vehicles - confirmed to be stolen - hit a barrier and was left abandoned.
The other vehicle - suspected to be stolen - was spiked on Ōhaupō Road, Glenview about 4.30am.
It carried on until it came to a stop a short time later on Kahikatea Drive, Frankton.
Police said they found hammers, a machete and a bag of coins inside the vehicles.
Four youths were taken into custody.
Detective Senior Sergeant Terri Wilson said a fifth attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended.
All five will appear on a range of charges in Hamilton Youth Court today.
