There are 4006 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today and a further 13 deaths with the virus have been recorded.
In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said there were 654 people in hospital, including 16 in ICU.
The seven-day rolling case average of community case numbers is 5288, this time last week it was 6990.
On the deaths being reported today, five were from the Auckland region, two were from Waikato, one was from Bay of Plenty, two were from Hawke's Bay, one was from Taranaki, one was from Canterbury and one was from Southern.
The ministry said one was less than 10 years old, one was in their 60s, three were in their 70s, two were in their 80s and six were aged over 90. Of these people, six were women and seven were men.
There have now been 1638 deaths confirmed as attributable to Covid-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor.
There were also 168 new cases reported at the border.
Yesterday the Ministry of Health reported 3302 new community cases and 18 further deaths with the virus.
