In a statement, the commission said it was aware of the violent video circulated over the weekend and steps were taken to ensure the video link was brought to Facebook's attention for removal.

Police have launched an investigation with a local student being questioned about the incident.

The video shows a boy being beaten in a classroom at the Ratu Kadavulevu boarding school

The video received thousands of views after being widely shared by Facebook users prior to its removal.

Images and links of the alleged individuals in the video continue to be circulated online.

Commissioner Anne Dunn-Baleilevuka urged people to refrain from sharing images along with any speculative information that has not been confirmed by authorities.

Police say the incident recorded in the video took place last year.
