The president of French Polynesia's Council of Physicians is free again after being detained and charged with sexual assault last week.

Gilles Soubiran, who has been accused of assaulting a minor under the age of 15, is however under electronic surveillance and restricted in his movements.

While he is allowed to keep working as a doctor, he is banned from treating minors.

He was taken into custody reportedly after being under investigation for several months.

It is not known if a complaint is at the centre of the investigation.
