A post mortem has revealed a man found dead at West Auckland park died as a result of his injuries received in an assault.

Ramandeep Singh's body was found in Royal Reserve park in Massey early on Monday.

A 26-year-old has been arrested and charged with Singh's murder.

Singh had been working for Armourguard as a contractor.

Detective Inspector Proctor Aaron Proctor said police believed there was more than one person present at the time of the assault.

"Police are continuing to investigate and hold those involved responsible for their actions," he said.

"We believe there was more than one person present at the time of the assault and we are appealing to those present to do the right thing and come forward.

"This was an unnecessary and callous attack on a person going about his duty in the community.

"Our hard-working team is dedicated to piecing together the events that have unfolded leading up to Mr Singh's death and hold anyone responsible to account."

Singh's family were in the process of repatriating his body back to India, Proctor said.

The 25-year-old had lived in New Zealand since moving from India in 2018.
